User research

Validation research

As a user researcher, I conduct a number of different kinds of product-based research. This tends to be moderated or unmoderated usability testing sessions, but can also include tree testing, analytics and in product surveys.

Foundational research

I am also responsible for generating foundational and discovery research that is not product or feature specific and which aim to help us understand our end users. For this we may use large scale mixed methods surveys, diary studies or in person observations, as well as more traditional semi-structured interview sessions.

For those interested in learning more about different methods, I recommend the Nielsen Norman group for a nice overview or Design. Think. Make. Break. Repeat. as a nice reference book.
